today was a keeper

i never realized how interesting the walk home from the post office is.
first there is a drum shop on the corner--i'm not really sure how you can afford to pay rent in such an expensive part of seattle solely on the sale of djembes, but it seems to work for them. then there is some sort of martial arts studio where 15 people were heartily attacking the red and black punching bags as i passed. then there was a sight that slightly resembled a zoo exhibit, or a scene from "it's a small world" to me: a large plate glass window, behind which were several small children with headphones on, seated at keyboards, clapping their hands. and finally, there is a larger-than-life, shiny statue of an italian pizza chef with a protruding potbelly and a giant "thumbs up" beneath his ridiculous mustached face and chef's hat. all of this in a single block.
i like our neighborhood.

today was one of the best days in ages. i rode my bike to school and only needed to wear a t-shirt and vest. i brought a hoodie for when i got there, but didn't need it at all today. there were a few hours of unadulterated sunshine in the afternoon, and i got to take a delightful nap basking in it outside, facing the fountain and mt rainier (which remained hidden behind all of those far-off clouds). i ran all the way up 45th to see what is on the other side. it was worth it.

i'm sleepy and fighting off some sort of plague. i have a lot to do still, so i'm off.
